It seems like everywhere you turn there’s a minion or minion reference. Here’s a chance to know a little more about the banana lovers. We are going to expose some very interesting facts about the overall-wearing squad.
10 Fun Facts About Minions
1. There is Only 1 minion.
Yes you read that right, Despicable Me and Minions co-director Pierre Coffin voiced all of the minions himself. For the new film, Coffin voiced 899 of the little yellow henchmen.
2. They are Worldly little guys.
The directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud actually voice the minions and for that purpose, they used words from languages including French, English, Spanish, and Italian with additional elements of Russian and Korean.
“There are a lot of food references as well,” Renaud said. “For example, ‘poulet tiki masala’ is French for a Indian chicken dish.”
3. It’s a boys’ gang.
All of these three fingered yellow henchmen are male and have been given standard English-style names. Dave, Carl, Kevin, Steve, Phil, Jerry, Tim, Bob, Lance, Stuart and Norbert are just a handful of the ones that have been mentioned by name.
4. Purple is the bad guy.
Evil Minions are purple because purple and yellow are opposite to each other on the color spectrum. Yep, good and evil minions are literally exact opposites.
5. They need a new hairstylist.
The minions have only five varied hairstyle options, one out of them is completely bald. While all the tall minions have almost the same hairdo. Why can’t the tall guys have different styles?
6. They are coming back!
Minions isn’t the end of the line for the Despicable Me Franchise. A third Despicable Me movie has been confirmed by Universal. Sources say, it will be released in the summer of 2017.
7. They’re not that unique.
Even among all of the thousands of minions, there are only about 48 possible combinations of height and build (short and chubby, medium, tall or thin), hair (tall buzz-cut, short buzz-cut, sprout, combed, spread out or bald), and eyes (one or two). One-eyed minions are almost all small, although a tall one-eyed minion appears some of their promotional artwork.
8. Everyone loves them.
Unlike most “evil” masterminds that put down their henchmen Gru seems to genuinely like them, shows appreciation for their work and somehow knows each and every one of them by name. The minions crave his praise and affection in a fatherly manner. Now that’s an excellent boss-staff relationship.
9. You could actually call Lucy’s cell phone as it appeared in Despicable Me 2.
When Lucy gives Gru her cell number, it is clearly visible as 626-584-5723. For months, if you contact that number you would reach a recording of Kristen Wiig in character, with her outgoing voice mail message.
10. Minions have a Very Cute Way of Establishing its Chronology
The movie takes place in 1968 and 42 years B.G. (“Before Gru”). If you add 42 years to 1968, it would be 2010, the year Gru and the minions made their first appearance in Despicable Me.
